Service Pupil Premium 2018 - Updated Information

SERVICE PUPIL PREMIUM 2018

This message is for the attention of Regular Forces Service parents based in England.

If your child attends a state school, Academy or Free school in England and has been registered with the school as a Service pupil, the school will be granted a Service Pupil Premium of £300.

The Service Pupil Premium (SPP) is provided by the Department for Education (DfE) to enable schools to offer additional, mainly pastoral support during challenging times; this could include anything from a Service parent being away, being injured on active service, to bereavement. Funds are paid directly to schools with Head Teachers and school Governors deciding how the funds are used.

Schools with Service children in Reception to Year 11 classes are eligible to receive SPP, but only if your child’s name appears on the school roll as being a Service child. The annual census takes place on 18 January 2018 and children must be registered with the school before this date.

You are encouraged to contact the school and make them aware your child is from a Service family. (Pupils with a parent who is on full commitment as part of the full time Reserve Service should be classed as Service children) This information is not shared with other organisations and is protected on the National Pupil database. For more information on eligibility, please see the links below:

Combat Stress is the  UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health.

For almost a century, we’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, we provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict. On the phone and online. In the community and at our treatment centres.

We’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So when a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to help them take on the future.

Career Opportunities - AGC (SPS) Soldiers

Little Troopers Treasures is a project LTT partnered with Harper Collins, to bring children's books to forces families, currently there are nine books available to record.

The service family downloads the app then creates a family login, the service person then logs in wherever they may be (WIFI needed) or before they go away and records some stories, the app captures their face, voice and the book pages.

Once done the app zips up the story with lots of love and immediately the service child can go to the Little Trooper mode of the family login and there will be a surprise story waiting! They can watch the stories, or listen, over and over again.

There are also some free supporting resources for families to accompany this app, a weekly planner sheet to print off and use plus separation diaries for both parent and child to complete while separated and then share once reunited.

All the information and download links plus the resources files to print off can be found HERE

Tax-Free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare will be available to millions of working families across the UK, and over time it will replace childcare vouchers, which will close to new entrants from April 2018. Voucher schemes remain open to existing members.

Eligible parents with children under 12 (under 17 for disabled children) will be able to set up an online childcare account to pay their childcare providers directly. For every £8 parents pay in, the Government will add £2, up to a maximum contribution of £2,000 per child, per year (£4,000 per year for disabled children). To qualify, parents must be in work, this includes self-employment, and each expected to work a minimum of 16 hours per week and earn no more than £100,000 per year.

Using the Childcare Checker, parents will be able to find out which providers have signed up in their area. The scheme will gradually become available to different age groups from 28 April 2017 with all eligible parents being able to access the scheme by the end of 2017.

Parents who have registered with the ‘keep me updated’ tool will be notified when they become eligible.

Childcare providers have a pivotal role in Tax-Free Childcare. They need to sign up so that parents can use Tax-Free Childcare to pay them; thousands have already done so.

To find out more about the new and existing offers, including the introduction of 30 Hours free childcare from September 2017 for eligible working parents and how they can help you, go to the Childcare Choices website at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk where you will find the childcare calculator www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator to help you compare the government’s childcare offers and check what works best for your family.

MOD personnel based within the United Kingdom will have the same access to these new Childcare Choices as any other citizen, in line with the Armed Forces Covenant. Since 2013 the Ministry of Defence has been working closely with other government departments to ensure that these changes to childcare choices can be mirrored, so far as it is reasonably practicable to do so, for entitled MOD personnel based outside the United Kingdom. Full details of the required changes or additions to MOD policies will be published shortly, once the changes have been published on the Government’s Childcare Choices webpage.

Alternatively, email: DCYP-DCYP-Mailbox@mod.uk for further information.
