Cheshire West and Chester Council has arranged travel and parking initiatives on Countdown to Christmas

Cheshire West and Chester Council has arranged travel and parking initiatives to help the countdown to Christmas run smoothly, for city shoppers and local businesses.
From now until Christmas, free parking will be available on Wednesdays at the car park in Wellington Road North in Ellesmere Port and also the Watermans car park in Northwich.
Chester’s Park and Ride service has also been extended during the festive shopping period. To coincide with late night shopping in Chester, every Thursday the last bus will be at around 9pm instead of 7pm.
Also, for the whole of the last shopping week before Christmas, from Monday 17th December until Friday 21st December 2018, the last bus will also be approximately 9pm.
As usual, Park and Ride is free from 2pm on Wednesdays.
Councillor Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “We’re delighted to be able to provide these travel and parking arrangements for residents and visitors, during the busy run up to Christmas.
“It can be a hectic time for everyone but free parking at these locations will help keep shopping trip costs down and using our Park & Ride services takes away the hassle of trying to find a parking space in Chester city centre.”
More information about the Park & Ride and full timetables can be found HERE

Show your support for British Forces families who won't be together at Christmas

The Ministry of Defence estimates 11,000 of our Armed Forces personnel will be deployed overseas during the festive period which means thousands of children will be separated from their parent this Christmas.

The Reading Force charity is on a mission to bring those families closer at this special time of year, by giving them the gift of shared reading even when apart.

Just £4 pays for one Forces child to receive a book and Reading Force scrapbook over Christmas...

Please help Forces families stay connected this Christmas. Our Christmas Crowdfunding Campaign aims to raise over £4,000 so at least 1,000 Forces families can be sent a free book to read during the festive season and talk about over Facetime, Skype or the telephone. We have lots of inspiring case studies on our website.

If you know of any Forces families that will be apart this Christmas encourage them to join Reading Force

Forces Help to Buy Scheme - extended

Help to Buy
The Secretary of State for Defence has agreed that the Forces Help to Buy scheme will be extended for new applications until 31 December 2019.
Forces Help to Buy enables regular Armed Forces personnel to borrow up to 50% of their salary, interest free, to buy their first home or move to another property on assignment or as their family's needs change.
To date more than £242 million been provided to over 16,000 applicants. The extension of the pilot will allow Defence to explore how the policy fits within the wider housing strategy and understand any opportunities for private sector provision of the scheme.
The Secretary of State said:
"Everyone dreams of owning their own home and this hugely popular scheme has already helped thousands of Service personnel realise that dream. By extending the scheme by a further year I really hope we can help many more first-time buyers, families and married couples get a foot on the property ladder."

Flexible Working - A Guide For Service Personnel

Flexible Service becomes law on 1 April 2019, allowing regular personnel of the armed forces to ask to work part time and restrict their separation from home base.

The British Army and the Royal Air Force can apply for a Flexible Service arrangement from 1 February 2019 and the Royal Navy can apply from 1 April 2019.

Flexible Service is not guaranteed for those who ask and operational capability will come first. While most benefits are unaffected, it is only right that pay, pension and, in the case of part time working, leave are reduced proportionately.
